Most blogs either post strcitly MP3's or full albums. I've decided to be a hybrid, partly because I don't have enough time to upload more than one album a day and also that I love MP3 blogs like You Aint No Picasso but am also addicted to RegnYouth. So once a day, I'll upload a new album or direct you towards some free albums and then later on, I'll post some MP3's from some new bands I like.

Today's winner for the post on MP3's goes to the Ex-Boyfriends.

Ex-Boyfriends is:
Colin Daly - vocals/guitar
Chris O. - drums/vocals
Peter Harb - bass/vocals

They released their debut record, Dear John, three days ago on one of my favorite record labels, Absolutely Kosher. (Frog Eyes are on it and the Mountain Goats were too plus a number of other great bands, check them out.)

But back to the Ex-Boyfriends, I've only heard four songs by them, but those songs are some of the best pop-punk I've heard in a while. All of their are songs are upbeat and ebullient with energy and angst, good to listen to at really any time, but especially if you're having trouble in your relationships or are feeling down.

The Ex-boyfriends start their SXSW Tour in mid-March.

Comments:
Not heard these guys yet but theres a UK band i've loved for some 12 years+ called The Wedding Present (Cinerama - when the lead singers in a relationship (more or less the par.... once) - I'd suggest Bizzaro & Sea Monsters for (2 albums) introduction - then later material - Saturnalia & Mini (ep) - then if you enjoy theres about 3 Cinerama albums & 6(?) more Wedding Present albums + 3 covers albums - they've never sold out, always had a solid fan base and sales are enough to produce the next album - in the good driving guitar riff boy meets girl - oops kind of style - not punk (nor is The Jam btw) but not Pavement - a kind of more tuneful Sebadoh?? - they're 'The Wedding Present' - there is no one like them. hope you enjoy - thanks for The Setting Sons btw, its been a good 20 years i've last heard this having owned everything else Weller did to Wildwood then gap and Stanley Road - ps check The Jam's - The Gift - you might replace All Mod Cons (though English Rose is pretty hard to beat oh and the album Sound Effects - in fact BOTH are better than Modern World (their 1st 'slightly' Punky album, the rest is new breed mod (All MOD Cons - Shelley shoes (see Bruce Foxton with the Black & White shoes? they are from carnaby street - shoe company 'Shellys' & he's wearing light blue 'sta-press trousers, Wellers wearing some nice boiling shoes pps Foxton now plays for Irish punk band Stiff Little Fingers (who were, back in the day - deffinately Punk), Oh yeah union jacks & targets etc on the reverse of thew vinyl cover (& scooters or is that a Style Council insert sleeve??) all very mod etc :)) I dunno, bloody brit know it all.. know nothing of a LOT of US bands i'm liking recently after too much KDX and OD on IDM (Intelligent Dance Music = electronic but more cerebral than danceable but NOT ambient - ;) had enough (like 75,000 mp3's enough (i listened to in 24 hours and deleted) so gimme some geeeeetars - Kinks version of David Watts is better, i always thought that ruined the Jams album... good cover but Weller was finding his legs and his favourite song is 'Waterloo Sunset' by the Kinks so i think he was trying to hard to be ray davies..?.. i'd like to hear him do it now he REALY knows what he wants to play...

Hope i haven't bored you, i like your write ups, generosity & general vibe, i hope your blog thrives to great heights. If you could stand my over the top typing i'd help... turk00@spymac.com - peace - TurK
