The Mountain Goats - Nine Black Poppies EP
Even though Nine Black Poppies is only an EP, it's probably my favorite cd issued by John Darnielle and company. As the number in the title, the album contains only 9 songs and lasts roughly like 22 minutes I think. Among other gems, it contains the anthemic "Cubs in Five". Even though the Cubs nearly got to the World Series and the Tampa Bay Bucs won the Superbowl a few years ago, it's still one of their best songs ever. Other great songs include "Going to Utrecht", "Chanson du Bon Chose" (does anyone know what this means), and the title song "Nine Black Poppies". It's just a really strong, consistent album with a pleasant acoustic guitar and highly intelligent lyrics.
When I think of the Mountain Goats, I immediately think of laying in bed under the covers listening to this album, trying to deal with girl problems. So I pretty much do it every other day. Ha, I joke. Kind of. But this album just holds a lot of significance for me, and hopefully it will for you too.
This is probably going to be just one of few Mountain Goats posts that I'll end up doing, so if you want more of them, just tell me.

Be back tomorrow my loves. Oh, and guess what? My mom turns 50 tomorrow! So all you wish her a happy birthday, she's a nice gal. Kira, make sure to call her.

Thanks for posting on the Goats. Is there a chance you can post "Zopilote Machine?" That one's hard to find...i think i've heard two songs from that album (and am very curious)...I asked Mr. Darnielle if he had any at a show, he said he didn't have any from his older catalog (he was touring on "we shall all be healed" at the time).
My favorite is still Tallahassee.

Thanks for taking the time in looking for that Mountain Goats album.
Regarding your previous post on Wilco: Summerteeth, at least to me, is the best Wilco record.

"Chanson du Bon Chose", means "song of the good thing", though it's bad spelled french.
What else ? Oh, yes, Thanks for sharing!
And happy birthday to your mom, my friend.
