Palace Music - Viva Last Blues
In my mind, the definitive Will Oldham album. It contains 10 songs, and is quite arguably his best work to date. Personally, I think it's just great. I mean an album that has the range of "Work Hard/Play Hard" to "New Partner" to "Cat's Blues" all in a row is amazing. In my mind, that string of three songs is the best string of three songs on any album. Either that or the string of "Papa Was A Rodeo", "Epitaph For My Heart", and "Asleep and Dreaming" on 69 Loves Songs (Volume 2) by the Magnetic Fields. Hahaha, yeah, I'm a loser, but so be it.
Viva Last Blues starts out with a bang with the emotional and smooth "More Brother Rides". It carries on, at times reaching almost perfection. Easily one of the greatest albums made in the 90's.
Plus you get to hear Will Oldham sing about fucking a mountain. How can you refuse an offer like that?
